I used to view aging as a gradual degradation of natural strengths, and therefore it would be futile of me to resist the process. But as I am learning now, even in retirement, the body responds to training. It takes private Pilates instructors that are aware of what each person requires. I have some arthritis in my hip that caused pain, and as result I developed a number of irregular muscle habits that were harmful to my walking effectually. Little successes in Pilates have caused me to better understand how aging can be a process that many of us can use to actually improve our health. I am becoming more aware of the bad habits I had developed, and, bit by bit, retrain the muscles to work together properly. I am more mobile now than I was 5 years ago.
